Mercy Care Center

The Mercy Care Center is a multidimensional service to orphans and street kids in the capital city of Bangui. It is reported that in the city and the suburban areas around it there are over 100,000 orphans. Reaching out to these children and young people who have no hope has been exciting for our orphan caregivers.

The Mercy Care Center provides basic medical care for the orphans in our program as well as school supplies. ICDI strives to provide children with the opportunity to receive an education in order to better provide for their families in the future.

ICDI partners with VisionTrust International (VTI) for the sponsorship of orphans. VTI handles the fund-raising (sponsorships of orphans), accounting, and communications, while enabling ICDI to do the on-site training and nurturing of the orphans.

Each orphan is cared for in a home and there are weekly meetings where they learn about health, hygiene, AIDS/HIV prevention, and literacy. ICDI is a faith based organization, giving these children the opportunity to see, hear, and understand God's love for them is an essential part of the program.

The ICDI Mercy Care Center also includes small tradeschool programs, teaching older children skills they can use to earn a living. Skilled people in the vicinity of these care groups have agreed to help train the children in various trades. For example, ICDI has purchased sewing machines so young girls can develop sewing skills, enabling them to provide for themselves and their future families.
